Pietro Mianiti studied viola, composition and conducting.
After many years as principal violist of important Italian opera and symphonic orchestras, he made his debut as a conductor in 1998 conducting the the world premiere of Michele Dall’Ongaro’s “Wire”, directed by Daniele Abbado at Theatre “Rendano” of Cosenza.
He is founder of the Italian Piano Quartet, with whom he performed at major venues and festivals including the Festival dei Due Mondi (Festival of Two Worlds) in Spoleto, the Lygon Melbourne Arts Festival, New York’s Carnegie Hall, Kleine Musikhalle in Hamburg, St. Petersburg Philharmonic Hall and Dixon Gallery Memphis.

From 1999 to 2003 he was Music Director of “Prolirica - Peru”, at the invitation of Luis Alva. He conducted many operas and great symphonic and choral works at the Opera Theatre of Lima, including: Turandot, Tosca, Falstaff, The Barber of Seville, Aida, Rigoletto, Gianni Schicchi, Messa di Gloria by Puccini, Verdi’s Requiem and Beethoven’s 9th Symphony.

In 2004, Pietro Mianiti served as artistic advisor of the Teatro Massimo of Palermo and in the same season he conducted Carmen.

Regular guest of the As.Li.Co (Teatro Sociale di Como, Teatro Fraschini in Pavia, Teatro Grande in Brescia, Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo and Teatro Ponchielli in Cremona), he conducted L’Elisir d Amore(2004), I Capuleti e i Montecchi (2005), Madama Butterfly (2007), Turandot (2008), La traviata (2010) and Un Ballo in Maschera (2015).

In 2008 he began his collaboration with the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala as Chief Conductor and Professor, as part of the course for Orchestral Studies.

In 2009, Mr. Mianiti made his debut at the Teatro San Carlo di Napoli and was re-invited the following season, after conducting Tosca, to the Greek Theatre in Pompei. As well, he conducted I Solisti Italiani in a special concert at the Quirinale Palace Rome, broadcasted by EuroRadio.

From 2005 to 2011 Mr. Mianiti served as Music Director of the University Orchestra of “Roma Tre” (RAI Radio 3).

In 2013 he conducted Barbiere di Siviglia at the Kaliningrad Opera, directed by Damiano Michieletto, and Mefistofele at the Teatro Regio di Parma. In the same year, he assisted Yuri Temirkanov and Fabio Luisi in several symphonic concerts.

In the season 2014/15 he conducted Il Matrimonio Segreto at the Zürich Opera, and Falstaff at the Royal Opera House of Muscat.

Regular guest of many Italian symphonic seasons, Pietro Mianiti conducted the National Symphony Orchestra of the RAI - Italian Radio Television in Turin at the opening concert of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of Italy, the OSI - Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana in numerous symphony concerts, the Symphony Orchestra of Milan “Pomeriggi Musicali”, the Borusan Orchestra of Istanbul, the I Virtuosi Italiani at the Arena di Verona and many others.

2016/17, Pietro Mianiti conducted as well Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi at the Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts, Cenerentola and Barbiere di Siviglia at the Teatro alla Scala with the Academy Orchestra, and prepared Hansel und Gretel.

Furthermore, he was assistant and cover conductor for Fabio Luisi at the Paris Opera for Falstaff (director: Dominique Pitoiset).

His upcoming and next engagements for the season 2018/19 will include performances of Cenerentola, Barbiere di Siviglia and Elisir d’Amore with the Academy of La Scala, Ballo in Maschera at the Opera Rennes in co-production with the Opera Nantes and a new collaboration with Fabio Luisi at the Opera de Paris for Simon Boccanegra.

Pietro Mianiti is currently Chief Conductor of the Academy of the Teatro alla Scala and Professor of Viola and Conducting at the Conservatory of Music “Giuseppe Verdi Verdi” in Milan.
