Czech violinist Josef Špaček has gradually established himself as one of the most accomplished violinists of his generation. He studied with Ida Kavafian, Jaime Laredo, Itzhak Perlman and Jaroslav Foltýn. He won top prizes at the Michael Hill International Violin Competition, Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition, International Queen Elisabeth Competition and the Young Concert Artists International Auditions.
As soloist he appears with orchestras across Europe, the US and Asia, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Bamberger Symphoniker, Rundfunk- Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Orchestre de Paris, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Essener Philharmoniker, Kammerakademie Potsdam, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique du Capitole de Toulouse, Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI Torino, Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg.
He collaborates with conductors such as Thomas Adès, Marc Albrecht, the late Jiří Bělohlávek, Semyon Bychkov, James Conlon, Paul Daniel, Christoph Eschenbach, Valery Gergiev, Roy Goodman, Manfred Honeck, Jakub Hrůša, Eliahu Inbal, Jun Märkl, Cornelius Meister, Tomáš Netopil, Michael Sanderling, Thomas Sanderling, Thomas Søndergård, Krzysztof Urbański and David Zinman.
Josef Špaček gives recitals and takes part in chamber music festivals in Europe, Asia and the USA.
His CD recordings are released by Supraphon and Naxos.
He has served as concertmaster of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, the youngest in its history. In January 2016 the orchestra named him “Associate Artist”.
Josef Špaček performs on the ca. 1732 “LeBrun; Bouthillard” Guarneri del Gesù violin, generously on loan from Ingles & Hayday.
