Barry Douglas and Camerata Ireland Conclude Their 2026 China Tour on a High Note
From May 17 to 31, 2026, violinist Ray Chen successfully completed his 2026 China tour. The tour began in Guangzhou and continued through Hangzhou, Suzhou, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Wuxi, before concluding in Beijing. Over the course of two weeks, Chen performed in seven cities, presenting a series of highly engaging concerts to audiences across the country.
During the tour, tickets for several performances sold out shortly after release, and additional seats were added in some cities in response to audience demand. The consistently full concert halls, along with ongoing discussions and shares on social media, reflected the strong interest and enthusiastic reception of the tour.
he following evening, Douglas and Camerata Ireland took to the stage at the New Tsinghua Xuetang, officially opening their China tour.
On stage, Douglas and the ensemble performed in close collaboration, presenting a programme of outstanding works and bringing an early taste of the Mid-Autumn Festival to the Beijing audience. The concert was met with an enthusiastic response and sustained applause, providing a wonderful start to the performances that followed in Nanjing and Shanghai.
The tour then continued to Nanjing. Due to rainfall, the Nanjing Forest Music Festival concert, originally scheduled to take place outdoors, was moved indoors at short notice. Despite the change of venue, the Mid-Autumn Festival concert went ahead as planned.
Barry Douglas and Camerata Ireland then travelled on to Shanghai for the final stop of their three-day, three-city tour.
From Beijing to Nanjing and finally Shanghai, one lecture and three concerts made for a memorable musical journey over the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday.
Thank you to everyone who joined us along the way. We look forward to seeing you again in the concert hall!
